Traditionally, a career in architecture has relied on an individual’s ability to fund multiple university degrees and have connections within the industry. This lack of accessibility, support and diversity has a knock-on effect with inadequate representation in the workplace.
While there has been an increase in initiatives in the industry, there are still few opportunities for young people to be employed in an architecture practice before they have completed higher education. This can lead to further financial and contact network barriers.
Build The Way hopes to be a part of the movement and debate around architectural education and training.
Who is it for?
We offer traineeship placements for young Londoners aged 18-25 at a range of our partner architecture practices across London.
You do not need to have any previous experience.
Entries must complete the required application form(s) and video submission. More information will be published in July. This opportunity is aimed at individuals who have not yet been to university.
An ideal candidate is interested in architecture, open-minded, determined, proactive, curious and creative.
How it works
The programme introduces the architectural design process, with exposure to real projects, and the other professionals and consultants involved in making and shaping our cities.
Day to day you will work on 2D drawings & 3D computer models using architectural software programs. You will be part of an integrated design team, building on your collaboration and communication skills and taking part in design discussions.
The skills learnt can then be applied to a variety of different jobs within the industry and help to shape you as a young professional.
Professional Role
Throughout the nine months in practice, the trainees’ time is split across training, mentoring and working on live project work. 

In the first few months, the majority of the time is spent building a key knowledge of the built environment, learning essential skills and getting familiar with a professional environment.
Your week is structured as an employee of the architecture practice you’re placed with. You will be working from 9am - 6pm, 4 days a week.
This will total to 32 hours per week. Thursdays are typically spent at the LSA or building your professional development through placements and skill-building.
Day in the life
Trainees will gain the opportunity to connect with seasoned professionals across the built environment and gain insights into trends and practices.
This is also a great way for you to build a strong professional network that could open doors to new opportunities in the future!

Build The Way is proud to partner with The London School of Architecture, offering our trainees the opportunity to complete the EPQ in Architecture worth up to 28 UCAS points, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
This EPQ helps trainees excel in a dynamic university environment with the support of tutors and LSA students for guidance.
Through tutorial sessions at the LSA, trainees will work through the EPQ learning modules, gaining valuable insights and skills.
